  • Security
  • Luxury
  • Simplicity
  • Peace

These are all concepts that can be marketed just as readily as a new home or automobile.  

When you get automobile insurance, for example, you’re purchasing piece of mind, knowing that if anything were to happen to your car, your insurance company would pay the cost of fixing it after an accident.

Consider this: when you go to an insurance salesman to get vehicle insurance, you are not purchasing a policy. You’re purchasing the assurance that an insurance policy provides. The piece of mind you’ll have knowing that if and when you’re in an accident, everything will be OK since your insurance will cover the costs. Staying happy and at ease is crucial for new enterprises.  

Individuals are also sold on what beliefs they should have and what behaviors they should do as a result of those beliefs.  

Evangelists and preachers will try to persuade you to believe in their religion’s beliefs. A guy may persuade his friends to watch a football game on television. Parents persuade their children to eat all of their veggies before moving on to dessert. In a manner, I’m trying to persuade you to finish reading this post.  

So, how am I doing? 

Here’s how it works: 

If you want to accomplish a certain objective or activity, whether you’re in the business of selling athletic equipment or persuading your wife to buy a new boat… It’s crucial to understand how to market.  

The ability to sell is such a tremendous tool; sadly, most individuals are seldom taught it.  

Grant Cardone recommends this great exercise in his book “Sell or Be Sold”: 

Make a list of all of the many roles you perform in your life. For example: 

  • Parent
  • Teacher
  • Sibling
  • Spouse
  • Employee
  • Member of the Board of Directors
  • Officers of the law, etc.

Create a new list for each item on this list that defines all of the duties of that positions, as well as how vital selling is to each of those functions. You’ll realize how important selling is in your life, not just your job.
