Toney struggled with drug addiction and was imprisoned for drug possession when O’Neal was an infant. Upon his release, he did not resume a place in O’Neal’s life and instead agreed to relinquish his parental rights to O’Neal’s Jamaican stepfather, Phillip Aujiono, a career Army serviceman.

Cole High School in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from high school, Shaq attended Louisiana State University on a basketball scholarship.

Shaq was drafted into the NBA by the Orlando Magic in 1992 and he quickly became one of the most dominant players in the league. He was named an All-Star for the first time in 1994 and he won the Rookie of the Year award that same year.
